What “eco-friendly” means at BrighterHome

“Green cleaning” is used loosely online, so here is what we actually do:

  • Products: plant-based or low-toxicity all-purpose, glass, bathroom and floor cleaners. No chlorine bleach or ammonia in our standard kit.
  • Fragrance: light or fragrance-free options, so your home smells clean rather than perfumed.
  • Tools: washable microfiber cloths and mop pads instead of disposable wipes, and HEPA-filter vacuums that trap fine dust and pollen.
  • Dilution: concentrates mixed to the right strength, which cuts plastic waste and avoids leaving residue.

Every clean includes this at no extra charge. If you prefer a particular brand or need fragrance-free only, let us know when you book. You can also leave your own products out and we will use them. The result should look and feel like any other professional clean, just without the chemical smell afterward.

Pet-safe and kid-safe cleaning

Kids crawl on floors and pets lick them, so floors and low surfaces matter most. We use pH-neutral, residue-free floor cleaners, wipe up after spraying instead of letting product sit, and leave floors dry before we go.

A few practical notes:

  • Plant-based does not mean edible. Our products are low-toxicity, but we still keep bottles out of reach and ask that pets stay in another room while we work.
  • Cats are sensitive to some essential oils, so cat households get our fragrance-free option by default.
  • Pet hair is the biggest time factor in a pet home. Heavy shedding is a $25 add-on so we can budget the time properly.

We bring our own vacuums, but if a family member has severe allergies or asthma, tell us in advance and we will plan the visit around them.

Green cleaning for Woodlands homes and pollen season

The Woodlands was planned around a forest, and most homes sit under tall pines and hardwoods. That is a big part of the appeal, and it also means a lot of pollen. In spring, yellow pine pollen coats patios, cars and window sills, and it gets tracked inside onto floors and furniture.

Harsh sprays do not help with pollen; removal does. Our eco approach is well suited to it: damp microfiber traps pollen instead of scattering it, HEPA vacuums keep it from being blown back into the air, and we pay extra attention to window sills, entry floors and ceiling fan blades where it builds up. During heavy pollen weeks many families move to weekly or bi-weekly recurring cleaning. Our pollen season cleaning guide has more tips for between visits.

Does eco-friendly cleaning really work?

Yes, for everyday household dirt, grease, soap scum and dust. Most of cleaning is mechanical: the right cloth, enough agitation and the right dwell time. Plant-based cleaners do that job well in kitchens, bathrooms and living areas.

Where it takes more effort, we budget the time. Baked-on oven grease and years of hard-water buildup on shower glass take more scrubbing with gentler products, which is why those are better tackled in a deep clean before switching to regular visits. We will not use a harsh chemical on your surfaces without asking first.

For truly specialized situations, such as mold remediation, biohazards or sewage backups, eco-friendly household cleaning is not the right tool, and you should call a licensed remediation company.

Who Eco-Friendly Cleaning is for

  • Families with babies and young children
  • Pet owners, including cat households
  • Allergy and asthma sufferers, especially in pollen season
  • Anyone sensitive to strong cleaning fumes or fragrances
  • Households that want less plastic and waste

Eco-Friendly Cleaning FAQ

Does eco-friendly cleaning cost extra?

No. Eco-friendly supplies are included in every BrighterHome clean at no extra charge. You pay our normal rates, starting at $129 for a standard clean. See our pricing.

Are your products safe for pets and kids?

We use low-toxicity, plant-based products and leave surfaces dry. As with any cleaner, we ask that kids and pets stay out of the room while we work, and cat homes get fragrance-free products.

Do you disinfect if you do not use bleach?

We use plant-based or hydrogen-peroxide-type products on high-touch surfaces and bathrooms. If someone at home is sick and you want a specific disinfectant used, tell us and we will use it with your approval.

Can I ask you to use my own products?

Yes. Leave them out and tell us when you book. We will use yours instead of ours.

Will eco cleaning handle pine pollen?

Yes. Pollen is removed by trapping it, which damp microfiber and HEPA vacuums do well. Window sills, entry floors and fans get extra attention during spring pollen season in The Woodlands.

Do you offer eco-friendly move-out and deep cleans?

Yes. Every service, including move-out cleaning and deep cleaning, uses the same eco-friendly supplies.
